How to Inspect the Quality of Laser Cutting Machine Cutting?

1. Narrow kerf width, which is mainly related to the diameter of the laser beam spot; the kerf width of metal laser cutting machines generally does not affect the cutting quality, only when forming particularly precise contours inside components does the cutting width have an important impact, because the cutting width determines the minimum inner diameter of the contour. When the plate thickness increases, the cutting width also increases accordingly. Therefore, to ensure the same high precision, regardless of how wide the kerf is, the workpiece should be constant in the processing area of the laser cutting machine.

2. Good kerf perpendicularity and small heat-affected zone; under normal circumstances, metal laser cutting machines mainly focus on processing materials below 5MM, and their cross-section perpendicularity may not be the most important evaluation factor, but for high-power laser cutting, when the thickness of processed materials exceeds 10mm, the perpendicularity of the cutting edge is very important. When away from the focus, the laser beam becomes divergent. According to the position of the focus, the cutting widens toward the top or bottom. The cutting edge deviates from the vertical line by a few percent of a millimeter, the more perpendicular the edge, the higher the cutting quality.

3. Smooth cutting, no striations, no brittle fracture; when metal laser cutting machines cut thick plates at high speed, molten metal will not appear in the kerf below the vertical laser beam, but will spray out at the rear of the laser beam. As a result, curved striations are formed at the cutting edge, and the striations closely follow the moving laser beam. To correct this problem, reducing the feed rate at the end of cutting processing can greatly eliminate the formation of striations.

4. Rough kerf surface coating, the size of surface roughness is the key to measuring laser cutting surface quality. In fact, for metal laser cutting machines, cutting cross-section striations and roughness are directly related. Often poor cutting cross-section striations will directly lead to higher roughness, but considering the different causes of these two different effects, we generally analyze the processing quality of metal laser CNC cutting machines separately. Laser cutting cross-sections will form vertical striations, and the depth of the striations determines the roughness of the cutting surface. The shallower the striations, the smoother the cutting cross-section. Roughness not only affects the appearance of the edge but also affects friction characteristics. In most cases, it is necessary to minimize roughness as much as possible, so the shallower the striations, the higher the cutting quality.

5. No material burning, no melting layer formation, no large slag; the slag of metal laser CNC cutting machines is mainly reflected in deposition and cross-section burrs, among which material deposition is because laser cutting encounters a layer of oil-containing special liquid on the workpiece surface before starting to melt and perforate. Gasification and various materials do not require customers to blow away the kerf with wind, but upward or downward discharge will also form deposits on the surface. The formation of burrs is a very important factor that determines the quality of laser cutting, because the removal of burrs requires additional work, so the severity and amount of burrs can intuitively judge the quality of cutting.
